News: Sunsets Over Ontario

Our fearless leader and top gal, Janet has a great tip for enjoying summer in Central New York:

There are two very good reasons to visit Oswego this summer – one is our beautiful Harborview store and the other is the world famous sunsets on the shore of Lake Ontario. I was lucky to get this shot last week when my husband and I had dinner at Rudy’s. With the wonderful weather predicted this weekend, I am sure there will be more beautiful sunsets! If you stop over on Thursday, you will get the bonus of the Oswego Farmer’s Market, right on the street in front of Calico Gals!

Not to be outdone . . . the Syracuse store can’t offer amazing sunsets, but the gals can offer free homemade cookies! This weekend, Melonie is making her famous cookies! Stop in Saturday and Sunday for a cookie (or two)!

What happens in the garage…

Adopt-a-Bolt 2010

We like goals at Calico Gals. It feels good to accomplish what you set out to do. But who says that goals can’t be fun, too? For example, it seemed like a good idea to set a goal to empty many, many bolts during the annual Adopt-a-Bolt sale. Hmmm… but how to measure success…? Then someone had a good idea: lets stack the bolts and measure our progress next to Kathy!

Hey Kathy, are we there yet?

This pile doesn’t even include the empties from Harborview store!

Then Kathy turns around and there it is! Her new Babylock Symphony sewing machine has just been delivered! Forget the bolts, she was in quilter paradise! Within minutes she was backing her car up to the door.

Not to worry, there are at least 3 more Symphonys that arrived on that truck. Kathy will be happy to share her excitement.

Earlier this summer

Calico Gals held several sewing get-togethers. One ended up in a pile in the garage. Melonie, Roberta and Beth were just a few of the Syracuse gals sewing up scraps to make pet beds for animal shelters. They look pretty comfy for people, too!

The One Million Pillowcase Challenge has united stitchers all over the world to make pillowcases for charity. Many Calico Gals have done their share with over 800 sewn and donated to local charities. Both the Oswego and Syracuse stores held Pillowcase Pep Rallys on the same night in August.
